"BAND TOGETHER"

Friday evening, 17th November, 2006, saw St. Mary's Church, Berkeley, host what is hoped to be the first of many performances from Sharpness and District Silver Band, and on this occasion they were joined by Chepstow Male Voice Choir.

The large audience were entertained for more than two hours in a concert of two halves, firstly by the Band each time, then with the Choir, with each half culminating in a joint performance.

The Band played a wide variety of music, which included a wonderful solo performance of The Lazy Trumpeter by the Band's principal cornet, Hayley Everest, which was again given rapturous applause by the enthralled audience, who more than showed their appreciation all evening.

During the second half, the Mayor of Berkeley, Val Watts, presented a certificate to the Band's Musical Director, Philip J Anderson, on behalf of The Awards For All Lottery Foundation for £2,500 to enable the Band to purchase more new instruments for their ever increasing numbers.

Chepstow Male Voice Choir gave their usual outstanding performance, even through being depleted in numbers due to some of them being "on duty" singing at the Millennium Stadium.

The Band would like to thank them for giving their services free and also thank Jill Tebb from the Stroud and Swindon building society in Berkeley for sponsoring the event. Thanks must also go to Berkeley Church and Richard Prang for their support.

A collection was made at the end of the evening which raised £250 for Children in Need.
